Synopsis

The story is set 50 years after the 1969 anime, with Kan-chan's grandchild Kantarou Yodayama meeting Akubi as she goes on a journey to prepare to be queen. In the human world, Kantarou and Akubi go on various adventures, getting jobs, and learn the importance of having dreams.

Princess Akubi, daughter of King Genie, has her job cut out for her. She must begin her royal training in the human world to help elementary school student Kantaro find his dream. Only, he’s not impressed by magic or Akubi’s well-intentioned efforts.

It’s pandemonium in the human world when Akubi’s little brother is released from the magic bottle by an unsuspecting and gassy Kan. But getting the adorable mischief-maker to disappear is a lot harder than eating a couple of sweet potatoes.

Life takes on a tinge of mayhem when Kan and Akubi get stuck with a needy set of triplets. Then the new weary-eyed guardians come up with a new bright idea: drop the infants off, along with Akubi’s kid bro, at the new A.I.-equipped daycare center.

Ninjas, genies, and a kidnapping, oh my! With his friends and Akubi, Kan reluctantly visits a new ninja theme park on invitation from his wealthy classmate Kaneamari. Surprises soon strike: Kan is recruited for a ninja show, then someone disappears.

Amenity-rich luxury and good old-fashioned roughing it collide when the gang’s latest excursion takes them into the wild open wilderness. Kaneamari shows off by “glamping,” swaying some, but Kan and Mario decide to impress Akubi another way.

Kan’s grandpa, Kanichi, is back in Japan for a family vacation, and King Genie and Akubi couldn’t be more surprised. The Kanichi they knew fifty years ago has changed completely, prompting tears of joy from King Genie and unexpected changes in Kan.

Things get surreal with the appearance of King Genie who screams emergency. Kan and Akubi are then swallowed up by a strange void before being transported to an animation studio of all places. They better get to work—their survival depends on it.

The elementary school tradition of spiritual cultivation at the temple is underway, and Kan is oddly into it. Meditation and standing under a freezing cold waterfall are all part of the agenda, but nothing compares to what awaits the gang at nightfall.

Kaneamari is panicked and desperate for Kan and Akubi’s help after ruining his dad’s golf club. Enter cult anime figure Moonlight Phantom Thief. With a little imagination and magic, all seems solved, until a certain self-described detective shows up.

Pâtisserie has a romantic ring to it, at least according to Akubi, who decides to try her hand at baking with Kan. Surprisingly Kan’s cake impresses, leading him to make a special delivery to a special someone. Prince Farty, however, has other plans.

A Dream Finally Found!

King Genie reports Kan has finally discovered his dream, but Akubi is pulled into the human world before she can hear what it is. While Akubi is about to burst with excitement, Kan is dreaming about winning the railway photo contest he just found.

Akubi receives completely shocking news from King Genie, which sends Kan into a tailspin too. On their last mini internship together, Kan and Akubi venture into new territory, and the revelations fly.
